Maxwelton remodel - Day 1

It's been almost a year since Elena & I talked about remodeling our backyard. The backyard design dates back to the 1950's when our house was built.  It was time for a change.  In the past year we've researched patio layouts, sketched out deck & BBQ plans and thought about new landscaping ideas.  It took several months to put our plans on paper and review with the City of Piedmont.  After a lengthy planning review (2 months) and a brief neighborhood review (2 weeks) we were issued a Building Permit in June.  In the past month we interviewed three general contractors and selected a small company named Garden Lights.

Garden Lights broke ground in the backyard today!  A foreman and four laborers arrived early this morning and started work demolishing the concrete patio and steps.

Despite the noise, dust and barking dog (Dexter of course) it's exciting to see progress!   Garden Lights thinks the project will take at least 8 weeks.  We hope we're done by the end of September.

We're  lucky to have the open space adjacent to the patio.  The Garden Lights dump truck parked in the open space and the crew created a platform to take haul the old concrete away.  They completed half the demolition work today.  The rest of patio and the old wooden deck are scheduled to be removed tomorrow.
